L’ou com balla (Dancing egg) is a tradition that is observed all over Catalonia. It takes place during the feast of Corpus Christi, which celebrates transubstantiation in the Roman Catholic Church. In Barcelona, the dancing egg tradition takes place on June 20, 2019 at the Barcelona Cathedral. This tradition dates back to the 16th century and was started by followers of Christianity who placed an egg in the fountain of the Barcelona Cathedral. In order to make the egg ¨dance¨, the egg has to be emptied and filled with wax to cover the hole used to empty the egg. With the weight of the wax added, the egg turns in the fountain without falling and looks like it is dancing. The fountain is also surrounded by bouquets of beautiful flowers to mark the occasion of the dancing egg. This celebration dates back centuries, so check it out to become a part of this tradition!
